Heated Boilers and Fittings

A heated boiler is the engine of the setup. It holds your liquid, brings it up to temperature and holds it there, and everything downstream depends on it doing that steadily. The fittings matter just as much, because the lid seal and the element are where heat and pressure actually meet.

For boilers we have the Kegland Digiboil water boiler, the Still Spirits 25 L T500 boiler in 240 V with a 48 mm lid hole, the Pure Distilling heated boiler drum at 30 L with 700 and 1500 W settings, and the Grainfather sparge water heater at 40 L. Spares are worth knowing about before you need them, so we keep a replacement stainless lid with a 47 to 48 mm hole for the T500 and AlcoEngine, a spare stainless lid with a 60 mm hole, and a 2200 watt stainless steel heating element in 220 to 240 V. Sealing is 2 inch flat silicone and ribbed tri-clover gaskets for keg boilers.

For gentle warmth rather than boiling, Morgans make a rigid shell 30 W heat pad and a 30 W belt for 30 L fermenters, there is a flexible shell 30 W pad and a Keg King 30 W fermenter belt, plus a glass immersible heater and a Kegerator tropical fan kit.

Check your lid seal every few runs. A tired gasket loses heat slowly enough that you blame everything else first. Rules vary, so check what applies to you. We are at Laverton North and Epping. See pot stills, reflux setups and temperature control.
