Our Triple Scale Hydrometer is our most popular one and can be used for both wine and beer.

This hydrometer allows you to keep track of your fermentation& progress and determine the finished product & alcohol content by taking readings before and after fermentation and comparing them. This triple scale hydrometer also allows you to verify when your batch is ready to bottle by showing you the specific gravity.

A hydrometer cannot read the actual alcohol content of wine or beer that has finished fermenting. it can only be used to calculate 'potential alcohol" by reading the sugar content.

HOW TO USE THE HYDROMETER

The hydrometer has a long glass section containing the calibrated scale and it is weighted at the bottom, (with a bulbous lower end) so that it will float upright in a liquid.  The scale of figures on the hydrometer appears to be ‘upside down’ the smallest being at the top and the largest at the bottom.  

To read the hydrometer you can either float it in some decanted liquid in a tall test jar or cylinder. 

Always spin the hydrometer after placing it in the liquid to remove any air or gas bubbles clinging to the glass which will give an inaccurate reading. 

Steady the hydrometer and take your reading immediately it stops bobbing as all hydrometers will slowly rise up. 

This vinometer for measuring the percentage of alcohol in your wine and mash. By using a vinometer you can determine how much alcohol your wine contains on the basis of the viscosity. Just fill the thin tube over the funnel with wine and turn the whole thing upside down. Due to the amount of wine remaining in the tube you can read the alcohol content on the scale.

This determines the alcohol content in fermented wines and wine-like beverages with low residual sugar content.

Application:
The recommended measuring temperature is 20 ° C
Fill the liquid in the funnel of the vinometer and close the small opening (capillary tube) with the index finger to turn over / tilt the vinometer so that the excess liquid can run out.
Hold the vinometer with the funnel down and take the index finger of the capillary tube to then read off the alcohol content on the scale.

31cm long Baume hydrometer 10 - 20 with 0.1 increments for measuring the sugar density in juice throughout the winemaking process.

Baume hydrometers are used for liquids heavier than water, for example, grape juice, sugar syrups.

How to Read a Hydrometer:

1. Pour your sample into a smooth, clear cylinder that is dry or well rinsed with a portion of the sample.
2. Make sure that your sample is thoroughly mixed before testing.
3. Immerse the hydrometer in the liquid to a point slightly below the place where it naturally floats. Make sure the hydrometer and liquid are at rest and free of air bubbles.
4. Measure the temperature of the sample. Ideally, the sample temperature should be equal to the temperature standard of the hydrometer, generally 60°F. If temperature differences are unavoidable, correction tables can help to adjust readings
5. Take your reading at the point where the surface of the liquid crosses the hydrometer.

An absolute must-have for any brewer, amateur to professional. Nothing can go past the accuracy and no-nonsense about a trusted hydrometer. This hydrometer is to measure the 0-100% of your alcohol.

A Hydrometer Measures the density or specific gravity of a liquid. Used to give a reading to the gravity of your wort. 
Suspend the Hydrometer in a sample of your wort to get the reading in one of our 250mL Glass Cylinders or our 100mL Plastic Cylinder.

To calculate your % Alcohol By Volume 
(OG - FG) x 131.25 = ABV %

Where OG is your Original Gravity e.g. 1.050 as shown by your hydrometer before you pitch your yeast.
and FG "Final Gravity" e.g. 1.010 as shown by the hydrometer after it has fermented.

= ( 1.050 - 1.010 ) * 131.25 
= 5.25% ABV

Quicker and easier, use this refractometer to measure unfermented wort. Once alcohol is present in the wort, the use of a correction table to measure the density of your beer or wine.

Hydrometer Alcoholmeter 0 - 100% at 17cm long with proof scale and instructions.

Ideal for testing high alcohol brews. It will only work in spirits with no residual sugar as the sugar will cause buoyancy and give a false reading of strength. If you are distilling alcohol then this is the type of hydrometer you will need.

Hydrometer alcoholmeter is used to find the alcohol percentage of alcohol by volume (abv) in a completely dry or distilled liquor. It does this by measuring the density of the liquid compared to that of alcohol; any residual sugar or other cause of change to the density will result in a false low reading.

Because there is often a minute amount of unfermented sugar following standard fermentation, along with dissolved carbon dioxide and spent yeast or solids remaining after fermentation, it is very difficult to obtain an accurate reading of the abv in such a liquid.

In addition, an alcoholmeter is increasingly difficult to read at lower alcohol percentages, compounding the problem. For this reason, it is suggested that you use an alcoholmeter only for the testing of distilled spirits.

A salinometer is an instrument designed to calculate the salinity content. This hydrometer can be used for measuring saltwater, weather its salt in a brine or salt levels in an aquarium this is the product for you.

Below is the instruction of how to use it:

1, Handle the salinometer with care.
2, Draw off a sample of liquid to be tested into the trial jar.
3, Gently lower the hydrometer into the liquid until it floats freely.
4, Spin the hydrometer to eliminate any air bubbles clinging to the side as if this is not done a false reading may be obtained.
5, When the hydrometer stops moving and is not in contact with the side or bottom of the trial jar, take reading as shown on the below sign. The number you read is the density of the liquid.

Measurement range: 1-13. As with the hydrometer for alcohol, here too the extract content (the more extract, the fuller the taste of the vinegar) and possibly also the residual alcohol content interfere with the measurement. Nevertheless, the way the vinegar hydrometer can be used to exactly measure the acetic acid content of fermentation vinegar.

This distillers parrot is a piece of kit that allows you to take alcohol gravity measurements using an Alcometer/Hydrometer continuously throughout your pot or reflux run.

It should be placed inline of your distillation outlet so that the drops of distillate fall directly into the tallest collection cone. 

You will then place your Alcometer gently into the lower cone piece (be careful not to drop it in without any liquid/distillate in there, as Alcometers and Hydrometers are very fragile)
