Screw Caps

A screw cap is the closure most home bottlers actually need. No corker, no capper, no learning curve, and a seal that holds for years if you match the cap to the bottle properly.

For wine, the BVS thread is the standard. We stock the aluminium pre-threaded BVS cap that can be applied by hand, and the Novatwist plastic screw cap that fits any BVS bottle. Both work on the BVS wine bottles in our bottles range, so if you are bottling a vintage without a corker this is the way to do it.

For olive oil, the 31.5mm caps are the ones to know. Gold pre-threaded metal with a pourer, black plastic pre-threaded with a pourer, and a plain green plastic cap from Ferrari. The pourer matters more than it sounds: it controls the flow and stops oil running down the outside of the bottle.

For demijohns and flagons we carry 35mm metal and plastic screw caps, green metal caps, 38mm silver metal caps for two litre flagons and a 38mm white plastic equivalent. There are 24mm bronze pre-threaded caps for smaller Italian bottles and PET screw caps from Morgans for plastic beer bottles.

Bring the bottle in if you are unsure. Thread sizes are hard to judge by eye and we would rather match it on the counter than have you buy twice.
