Weight Scales

Volume measurements lie. A cup of flour, a scoop of salt, a handful of hops, all of them shift depending on how tightly the stuff is packed. Weight does not, which is why most recipes worth following in brewing, curing and baking are written in grams. A scale is the cheapest way to make your results repeatable.

Pick by the smallest thing you need to weigh, not the biggest. The Kegland electronic pocket scale reads to 1000 g in 0.01 g steps, which is the one for yeast, salts, nutrients and anything measured in fractions of a gram. The digital 3000 g scales read in 0.1 g increments and come both with batteries included and in a no box version. For general kitchen work the Keg King digital kitchen scale covers 5 kg in 1 g steps, and there is a 4 kg analogue kitchen scale if you would rather not deal with batteries at all. At the heavier end, the Kegland 40 kg platform bench scale with a 1 g display handles grain bills and full buckets, and the hand meat lift scale with a stainless hook goes to 50 kg for anything hanging.

One thing worth doing. Tare your container before you start, then tare again between additions. It saves arithmetic and it saves the batch when you lose count.
