Distillery Kits

A distillery kit puts the still and the gear around it in one box, so you start with a setup that is known to work together. We stock complete kits from Still Spirits and Pure Distilling, and we sell the parts of each on their own too.

Air Still and Air Still Pro. Compact benchtop stills that plug into a power point and cool with a built-in fan, so there is no water hose to connect. The Air Still is a pot still. The Air Still Pro runs as a pot still or a reflux still and collects the foreshots automatically.

Create+ T500. Still Spirits' reflux system: a 25 L stainless boiler with a column and condenser packed with copper and stainless saddles, joined by a 2 inch tri-clamp so you can add other attachments later. The companion kits add the gear to make, filter and flavour a wash.

Pure Distilling. Built around the Australian made copper Spirit Maker reflux condenser, with a 30 L fermenter, Smart carbon filter and wash ingredients. Not every kit includes a boiler, so check each listing for exactly what is in the box.

In Australia, distilling alcohol needs an excise licence and stills over 5 L need ATO permission to own, so check the rules before you buy. Our home distilling guide and pot still vs reflux still vs air still explain the options, or come and see the kits at Laverton North or Epping. See also Air Still, T500 stills and copper and pot stills.

Frequently asked questions

Which distillery kit should I start with?

Start with what you plan to make and the rules that apply. The Air Still is a compact 4 L benchtop still that is also listed for distilled water and hydrosols. Larger reflux systems such as the Create+ T500 and Pure Distilling setups are over 5 L, so they need ATO permission to own, and distilling alcohol with any still needs an excise licence. Our guide to pot still vs reflux still vs air still compares the designs.

Do the kits include a boiler?

It depends on the kit. The Create+ T500 Distilling System includes the 25 L Create+ boiler, and the Air Still kits are self-contained stills. The Pure Distilling Distillery Upgrade Kit does not include a boiler. Check each listing for exactly what is in the box.

What else will I need?

Each run uses a fresh wash, so you will keep coming back for turbo and distillers yeast, carbon for filtering and essences to flavour your spirit.

Is home distilling legal in Australia?

Distilling alcohol in Australia needs an excise manufacturer licence for a still of any size, and the ATO says it does not grant licences to distil spirits for personal consumption. You can own a still of 5 litres or less without ATO permission if you are not using it to distil alcohol, for example for distilled water or essential oils. Stills over 5 litres need ATO permission. Our home distilling in Australia guide explains the rules. This is general information, not legal advice, so check with the ATO for your situation.
