A reflux setup is what you use when you want a cleaner, higher strength spirit rather than something carrying plenty of character over from the wash. The condenser does the real work, giving vapour somewhere to cool, fall back and separate before anything reaches your collection vessel. Get that part right and the rest of the still behaves.
Most people here are working with one of two systems. If you run a Still Spirits T500, the S/Steel T500 Condenser, the crimped temp sensor with its teflon wire and probe, and 100 g bags of copper saddles are the parts you will keep coming back to. If you are on an Alcoengine, look at the Gen2 copper reflux condensor at 47 mm diameter and the pot style copper condenser with the 50 mm union. Pure Distilling has a reflux style copper condenser plus a higher yield conversion kit if you already own one and want more from it. There is also the Alembic copper dome attachment kit, flat silicone lid seals for boilers and fermenters, and the Ice Bank chiller with four 20 m coils and a pump for anyone using a lot of cooling water.
Copper packing dulls over time. Rinse it after a run rather than letting it sit wet. Rules vary, so check what applies to you.
