A fermenter is just a vessel that keeps wild yeast and oxygen out while your own yeast does its work. What changes between one and the next is the shape, the neck and how easily you can get your arm inside it to clean. That is really the whole decision.

Our Italian glass demijohns come narrow neck and wide neck, both with PVC baskets, and there is a version with a tap and a heavier weaved basket if you would rather draw off than lift. Wide neck is the one to buy if you are fermenting fruit or you know you will be scrubbing. Narrow neck suits wine sitting quietly for months, sealed with a demijohn cap or a bored silicone bung and an airlock. Solid bungs are for when the ferment has finished. Smaller batches sit happily in a gallon jar with a swing clip closure. Brass taps to suit an 11 to 13mm opening and Rigamonti Casalinghi jar funnels make transfers less of a wrestle.

Worth knowing before you order: fit the bung to the neck, not to the airlock. Necks vary between Italian demijohns more than people expect, so measure across the inside of the opening or bring the vessel in and we will match it.

Glass demijohns are great containers for wine, vinegar, kombucha, and many other beverages. They have a classic teardrop shape and a plastic protective basket.

Wide mouth demijohns are ideal for fruit wines, vinegar, kombucha, or anything where you would like to reach in to the container. The width of the mouth of this demijohn is 4.5", and includes a plastic dust cover. To use with an airlock, cut or drill a small hole, and use with a rubber stopper and airlock.

As these demijohns are stored in agricultural and warehouse environments before export and undergo the required quarantine, inspection, and fumigation procedures in accordance with import regulations upon arrival.
Do not use hot or boiling water, as sudden temperature changes may cause the glass to crack or break.

StellarSan Sanitiser 500mL

100% Food Grade non-rinse sanitiser that can be diluted to 500L with our dual chamber mixing bottle compartment. Simply twist off the small measuring compartments lid, squeeze the bottle and it will start to fill that chamber only.
Even when you’re finished sanitising your products in a bucklet for example, you can still re-use the sanitiser over and over again. Making it a no brainer for your brewing sanitising needs and the cost to you is greatly reduced.
The new and improved phosphoric acid blend provides a unique microorganism killing system, unafected by organic soils and delivering a high foaming formulation with optimum coverage and penetration.
Please note foam is okay! Pour your wort directly onto the foam as this is a foaming non-rinse formulation. Our formula can be metabolised by the yeast and will act as a nutrient actually assisting yeast growth. Follow this procedure and it will not impart any off-odors or flavours.
Unlike other harsh chemical sanitisers StellarSan is a non-staining, safe stainless steel, and stable over a wide range of temperatures.
Phosphoric acid which is in this formulation also helps keep your stainless in good condition and will improve the stainless properties.

Pure silicone bungs are available bored to fit an airlock or solid for sealing purposes. These bungs are tapered.

White winery grade silicone is a purer alternative to rubber and, they are ideal for long-term storage of wine in demijohns or barrels. They have a long durable life span.
They are made with food grade silicone and can handle temperatures up to 180C. They also have excellent chemical resistance to a wide range of acid and alkaline cleaners and sanitisers.

We have a wide range of silicone bungs available, either solid or with an 8mm bored hole suitable for an airlock or blow off tube.
