Filtering is the quiet job that decides how your wine looks in the glass. A cloudy bottle usually tastes fine, but most people want clarity before they cork, and the media you run is what gets you there.
What you need depends on the machine in front of you. Plate filters take sheets, so we stock Cordenons filter pads in 20cm x 20cm and in 40cm x 40cm 25 packs, along with a round 22cm pad and Rover spare plastic filter plates for when one cracks. If you run a tandem filter, the standard filter cartridge and the Bravopleat cartridge both drop straight in, and there is an oring made to suit them. For smaller batches and topping up, the Ferrari twist funnel takes hand pleated Italian paper at fine 1 to 5 micron or fine 1 to 3 micron, plus muslin cloth if you only want to catch the coarse stuff. Ferrari muslin conical bags come in 2 Lt and 3 Lt, and there are 30cm paper filters in 6 packs.
One thing worth knowing: run coarse before fine. Dropping a heavily settled wine straight onto a 1 micron paper blinds it in minutes and costs you more in media than a rough pass ever would.
