Malt & Grains (cracked + uncracked)
Grain is where the beer actually comes from. Colour, body, the biscuit note in an amber, the roast in a stout, all of it is decided here before the yeast gets a look in. We sell malt cracked or uncracked, in 100 g lots for when you only need a handful of speciality grain and in sacks for when you are brewing properly.
Base malt is the bulk of any mash. Coopers Pale Malt Premium comes as a 25 kg sack, and Pale Ale Malt Grain and Pilsner Malt Grain are on the shelf in 100 g if you are topping up or trialling a recipe. Briess Bavarian Wheat Malt Dry and Weyermann Wheat Malt 100 g cover the wheat side. For colour and character, Joe White Caramalt Crystal Malt, Crystal Malt 100 g and Chocolate Malt Grain Uncracked do the work. Blue Lake Milling Rolled Wheat and Rolled Rye add body and head. If you want it simpler, the Bintani Dark Malt Mix, the Morgans Brew Cellar Ultra Blend 1 kg and our own 1 kg Light Malt Mix Brew Enhancer are already blended.
The tip: if you are mashing much wheat or rye, put Rice Hulls in with it. They do nothing at all to the flavour and everything to stop a stuck sparge.
We crack grain in store at Laverton North and Epping. See also brewing ingredients, hops and brewing yeast.

PRICE PER 100 GRAMS Weyermann® Munich Type 1 malt (‘Light Munich’) is a kilned lager-style malt made from quality, two-row, German spring barley. Usually used as a specialty malt, it has a high enzyme content despite its colour and can constitute up to 100% of the grist. It produces robust malt characteristics, including full body, amber colour, and smooth mouthfeel. The flavour is strongly malty and the rich aroma has notes of light caramel, honey, and bread. Munich malt is typically used in dark lagers and ales, especially Munich-style lagers, various bock styles and German festival beers like Märzenbier, Festbier, and Märzen.

Sorghum, offered here as a gluten free substitute for malt. It gives brewers a fermentable base to work with when barley is not an option.
The listing title is short on detail about pack size and format, so ask us for the current supplier specification before ordering, particularly if you are costing out a full batch. We can confirm exactly what is landing from Bintani at the time you order.
$135.00 AUD
Smoked beech barley malt from Weyermann, listed in our bulk buys. Barley malt smoked over beech, as the name has it, sold in bulk quantity.
Weyermann's own specification is the place to look for the malt's figures. If you are only after a small amount to try rather than a full bag, ask us what we can break down for you.
Pilsner Premium Malt by Weyermann is crafted from the finest German brewing barley, utilising advanced malting techniques to achieve a light wort and optimal boiling color. This malt offers a balanced malty-sweet profile with subtle honey notes, making it an ideal base for a variety of beer styles.
It excels in producing crisp and clean Pale Lagers, Pilseners, Pale Ales, Strong Ales, and Wheat Beers. Its versatility and quality ensure excellent brewing performance and refined flavor clarity in both light and dark beer applications.
Enzyme activity: high

$115.00 AUD
Pale malt from Weyermann in Germany, part of our bulk buys range for brewers working at volume. Sold as a bulk quantity rather than a small pack.
For the malt's own analysis, Weyermann publishes its figures and they are the ones to work from. Ring us if you want to check current stock at Laverton North or Epping before you make the trip.
Dark malt mix, sold as a brew enhancer and listed under our home brewing additives. Used in place of plain sugar to build body and colour in a kit beer instead of just lifting the alcohol.
The listing does not state a pack weight or the exact blend, so ask us before ordering and we will confirm what is in the bag and how much you get.
Wander Light Malt Dried Extract is a high‑quality Swiss‑made malt powder ideal for homebrewers and commercial breweries seeking a clean, light malt profile.
Light dried malt extract with diastase, from Wander in Switzerland. Listed under our bulk buys, so this is the larger pack rather than a single brew quantity. Dried extract measures out cleanly and keeps far better in the cupboard than an opened tin of liquid. Check the pack size with us before ordering if you are buying for a club.
$55.00 AUD

Heidelberg malt from Best Malz in Germany, listed in our bulk buys range. It is a German malt sold in bulk quantity rather than by the small pack.
We do not carry a spec sheet on this page, so refer to Best Malz's own published figures for the malt. If you want to check the bag weight or availability before ordering, give us a call and we will confirm.
$50.00 AUD
A complete partial mash brew kit put together to make a Hoegarden style beer, with the extract malt included. A partial mash gets you closer to the character of the original than a straight tin kit does, without committing to a full all grain brew day.
Ask us what is in the box and what fermenting gear you'll need alongside it before you get started.
$18.90 AUD
Dried pilsner malt extract, pale, from Briess in the USA. Pilsner extract gives you a light, clean malt base to build on, whether that is a lager or something paler where you do not want colour arriving from the extract itself.
Dried extract keeps well in the cupboard. Ask us about the pack size on the current run before ordering.
$319.00 AUD
Dried Sparkling Amber malt extract from Briess in the USA, listed in the pale range. Dried extract stores better than liquid and measures out cleanly, which is why plenty of brewers keep it on hand.
At this price point it is a bulk quantity rather than a single batch pack, so check the pack size with us before ordering and there will be no surprises on delivery.
$26.90 AUD
Briess sorghum extract in a 1.5 kg pack, a gluten free liquid alternative to white grain malt. It gives you a fermentable base to work with when barley malt is off the table, and as a liquid extract it goes into the kettle rather than needing a mash.
Check the pack label for the detail, and have a chat at Laverton North or Epping if you want a hand planning a gluten free batch.
A three kilogram pack of light malt mix, sold as a brew enhancer for home brewers. A brew enhancer goes in alongside your kit tin to build body and fermentables, and a light mix is the one most people reach for when they do not want to darken the beer or push the character around too much. Three kilograms is a handy size if you brew often enough that small packs get annoying. Follow the quantities on the pack and the instructions that came with your kit. Ask our team if you are unsure which enhancer suits the style you have in mind.
$179.00 AUD
$165.00 AUD
Peated malt at the heavy peating level from Simpson's, in a 25kg sack. Peat character carries a long way through a mash, so many brewers blend it with base malt rather than running it on its own.
A full sack, so it suits a serious brewing or distilling run. Ask at Laverton North or Epping about milling before you collect it.
From $13.90 AUD
DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR DISTILLERS, INCREASED PREDICTED SPIRIT YIELD, NON-GN, & SINGLE ORIGIN

Australia's first Non-GN distilling malt using the Firefoxx variety, this malt is single origin grown and malted in Tasmania and provides a high predicted spirit yield compared to standard distillers malt.
Profile: Malty, sweet, cereal

From $0.90 AUD
Flaked maize is corn that has been steamed, rolled, and gelatinised, allowing its starches to be readily accessible for conversion to sugar. Flaked maize has no enzymes of its own, which it can use for conversion, so simply add it to your mash vessel with other malted grains to allow conversion of the starch.
Flaked maize is ideal to be added straight to the mash tun for use in American pilsners and cream ales to lighten the colour and body.
Suggested usage rate: Up to 10%
From $5.90 AUD
Wheat crystal malt from Joe White Maltings. A specialty wheat malt used as part of a grain bill rather than on its own, bringing colour and body with it. Supplied whole. Add it to your order with the grain cracking service if you would rather it arrived milled, or take it as it comes and run it through your own mill.
From $6.30 AUD
Vienna malt from Weyermann in Germany, supplied uncracked. A malt that sits between a plain base grain and a specialty, used where you want a touch more malt depth in the finished beer. Supplied whole so it keeps its character. Add the cracking service if you would rather it arrived milled and ready for the mash.
From $7.50 AUD
Smoked malt from Best Maltz in Germany, supplied uncracked. A malt for rauchbier and other styles where you want the smoke coming from the grain rather than the kettle. Supplied whole so it keeps its character until milling. Note the listing also carries a Weyermann vendor tag, so check with us if the maltster matters to your recipe.
From $4.20 AUD
Roast malt from Joe White Maltings, supplied uncracked. A dark malt used in modest additions for colour and roast character in stouts, porters and darker ales. Supplied whole so nothing is lost sitting in the bag between brews. Ask for the grain cracking service at the counter if you have not got a mill at home.
From $5.20 AUD
Pilsner malt from Joe White Maltings, supplied uncracked. The base malt for lagers and pilsners, and a clean starting point for plenty of lighter ales as well. Buying it whole means it sits better in the cupboard between brews. Ask us to crack it for you at Laverton North or Epping if you have not got a mill.
From $7.90 AUD
Pale ale base malt from Briess in the USA, supplied uncracked. A base grain, meaning it makes up the bulk of the mash rather than a small specialty addition. Worth a run if you are chasing an American leaning pale ale rather than an English one. Supplied whole, and we can mill it for you when you order.
