Hops Pellets & Flowers
Hops do three jobs, and when you add them decides which one you get. Early in the boil they give bitterness. Late additions give flavour. Dry hopping in the fermenter gives aroma and no bitterness at all. Same pellet, very different beer.
What we stock sorts roughly by where it comes from. The Australians are Galaxy and Vic Secret. From New Zealand, Motueka and Nelson Sauvin. The American ones do the heavy lifting in pale ales and IPAs, so that is Citra, Mosaic, Amarillo, El Dorado, Cascade and Lemon Drop. For English and European styles there is Fuggles, East Kent Goldings imported from the UK, and Saaz for pilsners. Morgans finishing hops in Citra come in a smaller pack if you only want a late addition and do not want to open a bigger bag.
Something worth doing. Keep hops cold and sealed. Oxygen and warmth strip aroma faster than most people expect, so once a bag is open, push the air out, reseal it and put it in the freezer. If a bag smells like cheese or hay rather than fruit and pine, it has been sitting somewhere warm for too long.
Ask us at Laverton North or Epping if you are not sure what to substitute for what. More in brewing ingredients, brewing yeast and malt and grains.

Pride of Ringwood hop flowers in whole cone form, supplied by Bintani. Pride of Ringwood is the classic Australian bittering hop and is what sits behind a lot of the beers people here grew up on.
Whole cones behave differently to pellets in the kettle and in the fermenter, so ask us if you are converting a recipe across.
From $4.90 AUD
Clearance hop pellets, sold as a clearance line, so what is on the shelf is what is left. Clearance stock moves at this sort of price for a reason: it might be a variety we are not restocking, or simply the end of a run. If you are the kind of brewer who is happy to work with what is in front of you rather than chase one specific variety, this is a cheap way to fill the hop drawer. Check the pack for the variety and the details before you brew with it. Ask us if you want to know what is on the shelf today.
$3.95 AUD
Willamette hop pellets from Hop Co. Pellets store better than flowers and weigh out easily on brew day, which is why most brewers keep them on hand. Willamette is a classic English leaning variety, at home in bitters, browns and porters. Check the pack size on the listing, and ask us if you need a larger quantity for a bigger batch.
From $9.90 AUD
Pride hop pellets from Hop Co, listed under our home brewing additives. Pellets keep better and are easier to weigh out than whole flower.
The listing does not state a pack weight, an alpha acid figure or a harvest year, so ask us for the current details before ordering, especially if you are working to a recipe that calls for specifics.
From $9.90 AUD
Cascade hop flowers supplied by Bintani. Whole flowers rather than pellets, which is what plenty of brewers prefer for late additions and dry hopping. Cascade has been a favourite in American pale ales for a long time and it is still hard to beat. The listing title is incomplete on pack size, so check the quantity with us before you order.
