The closure is the last decision you make and the one that decides how the drink tastes in three years. It is worth more thought than most people give it, and it starts with matching the closure to the bottle finish rather than the other way around.
For wine, natural cork Ref 1 is the traditional choice and needs a corker and a cork finish bottle, like our 750ml claret antique green heavy punted bottle from OI Glass. Diam corks are the technical alternative if you want the same result from every bottle. If you would rather skip the corkscrew, BVS finish bottles take Novatwist plastic screw caps, and we stock 750ml claret flint light weight, 750ml BVS burgundy French green and 375ml flint BVS bottles to suit. For beer, Ferrari 26mm gold crown caps are the standard. Sparkling work uses the 29mm crown seal tirage cap for the second ferment. The odds and ends matter too: 38mm silver metal caps for 2 litre flagons, 35mm metal screw caps for demijohns, tapered agglomerated corks, and Ferrari expansion stoppers for a bottle you have opened and want to keep.
Check the finish before you buy either half. A BVS cap will not thread onto a cork finish bottle and no amount of pressing will convince it. If you are unsure, bring an empty in and we will tell you what it takes.
