Measuring Flasks & Glassware
Measuring properly is the difference between a batch you can repeat and one you got lucky with. Sixty one lines of glassware and measures for winemaking, brewing and distilling.
Measuring cylinders in 100ml polypropylene and 250ml with 2ml graduations cover most hydrometer work, and a graduated 3 litre jug handles the volumes a cylinder cannot. For lab work there are borosilicate Erlenmeyer conical flasks, 100ml low form glass beakers, glass reagent bottles and short stem glass filter funnels. Borosilicate matters here: it takes heat without cracking, which ordinary glass will not.
For dosing small volumes accurately, 10ml disposable syringes with 0.2ml graduations and a 100mm extension tube, which is how additions get made without guessing drops.
The valenche is the one people ask about by description rather than name. It is the thief you use to draw a sample out of a barrel or tank without opening the whole thing to air. We stock a one piece and a three piece version from Ferrari.
Also here: distilled demineralised water for calibration and topping up, and a digital thermohygrometer with an external sensor for watching a curing space or a fermentation room.
If you are calibrating a hydrometer or a pH meter, ask us. Getting the reference right is worth more than a better instrument. See also hydrometers and refractometers, pH meters and thermometers.

A 3 inch analogue thermometer gauge in stainless steel, reading minus 20 to plus 110, with a 50 mm probe. An analogue face with no battery to go flat on you halfway through a ferment. The 50 mm probe length and the thread on your fitting are the two things to check first. Send us details of the thermowell or fitting you are screwing it into and we will confirm this gauge suits.
