Our Ground Mexican Allspice offers a rich, cinnamon-like aroma with subtle notes of cloves, nutmeg, and pepper. The flavour is bold and slightly numbing, with a bittersweet finish and lingering warmth, making it perfect for everything from stews and marinades to baked goods and desserts.
Mexican allspice contains around 3% volatile oil by weight, and is mostly made up of eugenol, a mild anaesthetic. Since the oils have so much surface area exposed as a result of the grinding, they jump forwards at the first opportunity. Although the pungency disappears to bittersweet pepper, the numbing feeling lingers.
